Leica Monochrom Photographer

This comprehensive and practical three hour workshop offers Leica Monochrom owners the opportunity to learn more about the unique attributes of the Leica Monochrom – the world's first full frame digital black-and-white camera.
You will be introduced to iconic Leica imagery and pioneering photography that has defined Leica throughout history. Attendees will be encouraged to view the world in black and white and consider content and composition within their own images.
Colour filters within black and white photgraphy will be discussed and the tutor will demonstrate the capabilities of Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 on an image. Please remember to bring your own lenses, an SD card and a fully charged battery.

This inspirational workshop offers the unique opportunity to shoot with the highly desirable Leica M rangefinder – incorporating the world’s most compact, full frame digital cameras – the Leica Monochrom/M-E. This workshop is intended to be an overview of the rangefinder system, as well as introducing you to the Leica way of seeing.
Discover the essence of Leica imagery and the innovative and pioneering photography that has defined the Leica legend throughout history in this interactive half-day workshop. You will be encouraged to view the world through the unique perspective of a rangefinder. Your tutor will demonstrate the camera's abilities and guide you through the basics of the rangefinder experience, allowing you to anticipate the action and capture the moment with greater ease.

This comprehensive and practical workshop encourages Leica M-E & M9/M9-P owners to refine their photography skills and acquire new techniques, to enhance the Leica M experience.
This course is intended to be an introduction to the Leica M digital camera and an overview of the rangefinder system, as well as introducing you to the Leica way of seeing.
The tutor will discuss intuitive working methods and shooting techniques to make the most of your camera, and an inspiring selection of Leica lenses will be available for you to shoot.
We will look at the work of influential photographers, who have shaped the Leica legend, and consider ways of expressing your own individual style in your photography. This flexible workshop allows for the group to generate their particular photographic areas of interest.

These personalised hour-long sessions are the perfect introduction to your recently purchased Leica product. Your Akademie advisor will guide you through the set-up of your camera or optics product, and will be on hand to answer any specific technical questions.
This complimentary hour long-session is intended to help you to familiarise yourself with, and instill greater confidence in, the handling of your Leica product. Topics covered will vary according to the personal requirements of the attendee but will include: getting to know your camera, manual and autofocus, exposure and metering, camera modes, white balance, composition and optics adjustments.

Leica Street Photographer is a new, creative workshop aimed at those who wish to sharpen their photographic skills and capture the “decisive moment” on the streets of London. Join our Leica Akademie tutor, John Dooley, as you explore the streets of Soho to capture unfolding moments with your digital Leica M in one of the capital’s most beguiling neighbourhoods. Your morning introduction at Leica's creative hub Cafe Optik will include a guide to iconic Leica imagery and a brief history, as well as suggestions and advice to inspire and encourage budding street photographers.
Open to all Leica M digital rangefinder camera users, photographers will roam Soho in search of images that capture the spirit of the streets. Images will be reviewed and critiqued over lunch in a Soho cafe, and expert advice offered on taking and editing photos, image composition, developing a distinctive style in your images, understanding light, and defining the elements of a successful image.
Leica Street Photographer is designed to make photographers think creatively on their feet in response to their immediate environment.

Architectural Photography with the Leica M

Visualise the City of London as never before, using Leica’s legendary lenses in a uniquely urban setting. Attendees must bring their own lenses - a limited selection of wide lenses will be available to try during the workshop, including the Tri-Elmar-M16-18-21mm f/4 ASPH to the astonishing new Super-Elmar-M 21mm f/3.4 ASPH. Feel free to bring along your 90mm telephoto lenses too as they are excellent for selecting architectural details and elements.
The morning introduction at Leica's creative hub Cafe Optik will include a guide to iconic Leica imagery and a brief history of Leica, as well as suggestions and advice to inspire and encourage enthusiastic architectural and urban landscape photographers.
Open to all Leica M digital rangefinder camera users, photographers will view the City of London through Leica's finest wide angle lenses in search of images that define the ever-changing skyline and exciting new architectural additions to the urban landscape. Images will be reviewed and critiqued over lunch in the City, and expert advice offered on editing photos, thoughtful image composition, developing a distinctive style in your images, understanding light, defining the elements of a successful image and lens choices.
Architectural Photography with the Leica M is designed to explore Leica's wide angle lenses in a dynamic urban environment.

All Leica M digital rangefinder owners (M8/M8.2/M9/M9-P/M-E/ Monochrom) with their own lenses (there will be a very limited selection of wide M lenses to explore). Users must have a competent understanding of camera settings and exposure as well as an interest in architecture and urban landscapes

Leica Way of Seeing is a creative workshop aimed at those who wish to sharpen their photographic skills and seek out alternative images on the streets of one of the capital’s most beguiling neighbourhoods. Join our Leica Akademie tutor, John Dooley, as you explore Soho in search of visual inspiration and abstract imagery with your Leica.
Your morning introduction begins at Leica's creative hub, Cafe Optik, and will include a guide to iconic Leica imagery and a brief history, as well as suggestions and advice to inspire and encourage creative photography.
Images will be reviewed and critiqued over lunch, and expert advice offered on taking and editing photos, image composition, abstract imagery, developing a distinctive style in your images, understanding light, and defining the elements of a successful image.
Leica Way of Seeing is designed to encourage photographers to think outside of the box and experiment with visual ideas including perspective, viewpoint and subject.

Leica on Assignment

Leica on Assignment is an exciting new addition to our regular Akademie sessions for those who wish to test their photographic skills at capturing the “decisive moment”. You will be set a photographic project at the morning “briefing” and expected to return with your images to an afternoon deadline. Join our Leica Akademie tutor, John Dooley, as he reprises his former role as a national newspaper photo editor and briefs you around the zinc table on your assignment. Coffee and croissants in Cafe Optik will accompany the morning briefing, which will also include an introduction to iconic Leica imagery to inspire and educate budding photojournalists.
Open to all Leica digital camera users, photographers are instructed to take to the streets of London in search of images that capture the theme of the day. On your return to Café Optik, your images will be reviewed and critiqued, and expert advice offered on taking and editing photos to a specified deadline. Other topics of discussion will include; image composition, developing a distinctive style in your images, the importance of editing, understanding light, and what makes a successful image. A selection of the best Leica on Assignment photographs will feature in regular Café Optik pop-up exhibitions - with featured photographers receiving a print of their image and a voucher to spend in the Leica Store Mayfair.
Leica on Assignment is a bi-monthly addition to the Leica Akademie workshop schedule, designed to make photographers think creatively on their feet in response to a photographic brief within a specified deadline. Assignments will respond to contemporary events and stories, and will be revealed on the day of the workshop. We welcome suggestions and ideas for future assignments!

Lightroom in Action

Achieve optimum results from your digital images and learn from an Adobe expert. This introduction to the world of RAW photography is designed for Leica M digital, X, D-Lux 5 and D-Lux 6 owners, who wish to use the latest version of Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® with greater confidence. This practical session is the ideal way to understand and assimilate Lightroom into your workflow.
An Adobe® Lightroom® specialist will demonstrate how to get the most from Lightroom to make your own images really stand out. This session is based upon real world photographs - encompassing workflow methods and RAW processing.
Other areas covered include: Managing your catalogue, optimising your time in the Library module (with a focus on organising & key-wording your photographs) and using the Lightroom Develop module and the RAW conversion engine to experiment with enhanced highlight, shadows and clarity sliders (as well as the more powerful adjustment brush and gradient filter).
For people with less time on their hands, Lightroom Presets will be explored. There will be flexibility within the workshop to allow the group to discuss specific areas of interest. Attendees are welcome to bring their own images on their laptops to follow along in class, although this is not a requirement for the workshop.
